MADISON, Wisc. — Purdue football will look to end its 17-game losing streak at Wisconsin — and turn its season around — without a veteran starting cornerback.

Purdue announced Saturday morning that Markevious Brown had “retired” from the team for “personal reasons.” The announcement states that Brown is expected to return next season.

Purdue availability report: Starting WR was upgraded to questionable against Wisconsin

Insider: It’s been 20 years since “The Fumble” vs. Wisconsin. Purdue hasn’t been the same since.

“Marvkevious Brown must withdraw from the team at this time,” a Purdue team spokesperson texted. “As of today, we assume that he will be reinstated in the program for the 2025 season. This is a personal matter and we will have no further comment.”

Brown, a fourth-year player who spent his first two seasons at Ole Miss, has recorded eight tackles this season. Players can play in up to four games in a season and still maintain eligibility for that year through redshirt status.

Botros Alisandro and true freshman Tarrion Grant will likely see the biggest increase in playing time in Brown’s absence. Alisandro was listed on the depth chart as Brown’s backup and could be eligible to start.

Brown isn’t the only starting defensive back unavailable today. Senior safety Antonio Stevens will miss his second straight game.
