Police identify three victims in a medical helicopter crash in northern Kentucky

OWEN COUNTY, Ky. (WXIX) – Three crew members aboard a medical helicopter died after it crashed near Owenton, Kentucky on Monday, according to the crew’s parent company.

According to a statement from Air Evac Lifeteam, one of its helicopters – Air Evac 133 – crashed in response to an emergency call around 6 p.m

According to Kentucky State Police, the victims – Gale Alleman, Bethany Aicken and James Welsh – were pronounced dead at the scene.

The three were outside Grant County and were on their way to pick up a patient when the accident occurred.

According to the National Transportation and Safety Board, the helicopter was a Bell 206L-3.

“Our primary focus now is supporting the affected families as well as our team members,” the company said in a statement. “Critical incident stress management teams have been deployed to support our team members during this difficult time.

“This was a terribly tragic accident and our deepest condolences go out to the families and friends of the employees.”

According to FlightAware.com, the helicopter took off from Williamstown at 5:22 p.m. It was last reported “near Frankfort” at 5:30 p.m

According to a social media post from Owen County Fire and Rescue, the helicopter crashed near Amigos, a local restaurant.

Several witnesses had dinner on the back patio of Amigo. They said the helicopter crashed into a tower, causing it to crash and catch fire.

The National Transportation and Safety Board said an investigator would arrive at the scene Tuesday.

Owen Electric Cooperative said the crash caused a power outage that lasted about an hour.
