Police: Group attacks couple with baseball bats in front of shop and steals new sneakers

One person was arrested after a group beat people with baseball bats outside a sporting goods store in an attempt to steal their new sneakers.

The incident occurred just before noon Saturday at Dick’s House of Sport on Troy-Schenectady Road. Officers found two people with non-life-threatening injuries who had been attacked by a group of five suspects, Colonie police said.

The investigation revealed that the victims had purchased limited edition Nike Air Jordan sneakers and were attacked by the group with baseball bats from the store. The suspects then fled with the stolen items, police said.

Police found a suspect, 19-year-old Kyle H. Fowlkes of Colonie, at the scene and arrested him. He was charged with robbery, two counts of assault and illegal possession of a weapon. Fowlkes was arraigned in Colonie Municipal Court and transported to the Albany County Jail. Bail was set at $10,000 cash, $50,000 surety bond and $100,000 partially secured bond pending a preliminary hearing.

The other suspects are at large. Police are looking for clues and cell phone video of the incident.
