Pittsburgh Steelers sign former Harvard RB

With the running back position uncertain due to injuries, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced that they have signed Aaron Shampklin from their practice squad to the active roster.

The move became official on Wednesday morning. Shampklin was a member of the organization throughout the offseason after signing a reserve/futures contract in January and played in all three preseason games this year before being released in final roster cuts.

Pittsburgh brought him back to the training group, where he has lived until now. He was elevated to the active roster for the team’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4 and received the first regular-season carry of his NFL career that went for five yards.

Shampklin left Harvard in 2022 and signed with the Dallas Cowboys. He was released in September of that year before joining the Colts at the end of the season.

Shampklin was then released by Indianapolis in May 2023 and had stints with both the USFL’s Houston Gamblers and the Los Angeles Chargers before finding his way to the Steelers.

With Jaylen Warren’s status in limbo due to a knee injury and Cordarrelle Patterson dealing with an ankle injury, Shampklin might want some playing time as the primary backup behind Najee Harris in Week 5 and beyond.
