Pittsburgh Pirates vs. New York Yankees game postponed

The first pitch between the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Yankees in the final game of the regular season will have to wait.

The Pirates vs. Yankees are currently experiencing a weather delay as first pitch was originally scheduled for 3:05 p.m. ET. There is no information on when the game is expected to begin.

Pittsburgh will feature left-hander Bailey Falter. Falter is 8-9 in 27 starts this season, with a 4.26 ERA and has struck out 97 batters in 139.1 innings.

New York will counter with right-hander Clarke Schmidt attacking the plate. Schmidt is 5-5 with a 2.55 ERA in 15 starts and has struck out 88 batters in 81.1 innings. Schmidt missed over three months of the season due to a right lat strain.

According to Ethan Hullihen, the Pirates were already in the headlines for leaving utility infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa from the lineup when he was just four appearances shy of earning a $250,000 bonus. MLB.com’s Alex Stumpf reported that the decision was at the IKF’s discretion as it wanted a younger player to get playing time. Liover Peguero will start at shortstop.

The Yankees (93-68) have already secured the American League’s No. 1 seed for the playoffs despite losing the first two games of the series to Pittsburgh (76-85), and the Pirates have already been eliminated from playoff contention . If the conditions do not improve, the game may be postponed and not rescheduled.
