Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes is placed on the 10-day injured list due to lower back inflammation.

In related moves, the Pirates on Monday recalled right-hander Hunter Stratton from Triple-A Indianapolis, acquired the contract of outfielder/first baseman Billy McKinney from Indianapolis and designated for assignment right-hander Ryder Ryan.

In addition, Pittsburgh received outfielder Joshua Palacios from a rehab assignment (hamstring), who was reinstated to the roster and transferred to Triple-A.

Hayes, 27, has no hits in his last three games for the Pirates. In his fifth major league season, which he spent entirely in Pittsburgh, Hayes has a .233 batting average with four home runs and 25 RBIs in 96 games.

Hayes has posted a career batting average of .258 with 37 home runs and 176 RBIs in 476 games since breaking into the major leagues in 2020. He won a Gold Glove Award in 2023.

McKinney has not yet played in the major leagues this season after the Pirates purchased his contract from the New York Yankees last December. The 29-year-old has a .285 batting average with five home runs and 18 RBIs in two minor league levels this year.

Stratton, 27, has pitched 34 games for Pittsburgh in his second major league season. The reliever has a 2-1 record, one save and a 3.68 ERA.

Ryan, 29, allowed three runs on four hits in 2 2/3 innings as a relief pitcher in a 10-3 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. He is 1-0 in his first season with the Pirates and has a 5.66 ERA in 15 relief appearances.
