Patriots security guard charged with assault and strangulation after altercation, police say

A Patriots safety is charged with assault, strangulation and drug possession after an altercation in Braintree Saturday morning.

According to Jabrill Peppers Police, 29 people were arrested after officers responded to a disturbance at a home. The caller indicated that there had been an argument between two people, police said.

Peppers is charged with assault, strangulation and possession of a Class B substance, suspected to be cocaine.

The victim was treated at the scene by emergency services.

Peppers was named one of the Patriots’ captain investigators before the season began.

“We are aware of an incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend that police are currently investigating,” the Patriots said in a statement. “We will have no further comment at this time,” they added.

Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo said Peppers called him Saturday morning to tell him about the incident. Mayo was asked today if Peppers was still part of the team and would be welcomed into the locker room this week.

“He’s not in the building today, he has his appearance – but as we gather information, he can definitely come into the building – we don’t know enough to say he shouldn’t be in the building,” Mayo said in a news release .

Peppers received a no-contact order from the victim and pleaded not guilty in court.

His next court date is scheduled for November 22nd.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
