Palo Verde Park closed for renovations

TUCSON, Arizona (13 News) – Palo Verde Park in east Tucson is currently closed for renovations.

The park is located southwest of Broadway and Kolb and the road south of the park is completely closed.

The fences are up and the park is completely closed except for the dog park, which will not be renovated. The pool, fields and everything else are closed until the work is completed.

As with all other park projects in Tucson, funding for this project comes from voter-approved Prop 407, which provided approximately $3.4 million.

The renovations also included a completely new irrigation system, which meant the park had to be closed to the public as a lot of ground had to be dug up. There will also be new basketball and pickleball courts and new LED lighting so games can be played at night.

“By adding pickleball and basketball courts, we’re also getting more visitors who will come to the park and enjoy the benefits,” said Lara Hamwey, director of Tucson Parks and Recreation. “I also want to mention that Paul Cunningham, the council member for the area, is currently fundraising to cover the basketball courts so they can be covered. So I think it’s a very exciting time for this park.”

The park will be closed for approximately nine months, but 13 News will check in soon and bring you updates.
