Packers touchdown disallowed after referees from both teams whistled for 12 men on the field

Jayden Reed, wide receiver of the Green Bay Packers, would have scored the first NFL touchdown of all time in Brazil without any calculation.

The Packers appeared to strike first against the Philadelphia Eagles in Friday’s NFL game against São Paulo, quickly marching into Eagles territory on their first possession. On third-and-six attempts, Jordan Love found Reed in the red zone and began celebrating a touchdown after a shaken tackle.

Then the officials wiped it out, and the reason for this is not an everyday occurrence.

“There were fouls by both teams during the game. 12 players on offense and 12 players on defense,” said crew chief Ron Torbert said.

The Peacock broadcast even provided a helpful count for both teams.

That penalty would cost the Packers dearly, as another pass from Love was missed on the next play. Green Bay was on the field on fourth-and-6 on offense, but a false start set them back another five yards and forced them to punt at the Philadelphia 43-yard line.

Not a great start, then, but at least they weren’t the Eagles. Philadelphia’s first drive ended with a Jalen Hurts pass being intercepted by Packers safety Xavier McKinney, setting up a Green Bay field goal, and on the next drive, a botched snap put the ball back in Eagles territory.

Fortunately, Reed still scored the Packers’ first touchdown.

And then another one.
