Over 40,000 customers in upstate western NC woke up to power outages on Friday

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) – Duke Energy is reporting over 40,000 customers without power in upstate and western North Carolina on Friday.

These outages were impacted by Hurricane Helene, which is expected to make landfall Thursday evening.

Here’s a look at the biggest outages in our area as of 4 a.m. Friday:

North Carolina

  • Buncombe County – 14,367 customers without power.
  • Haywood County – 652 customers without power.
  • Henderson County – 3,250 customers without power.
  • Jackson County – 1,970 customers without power.
  • Macon County – 1,947 customers without power.
  • McDowell County – 1,163 customers without power. .
  • Mitchell County – 1,619 customers without power.
  • Rutherford County – 575 customers without power.
  • Swain County – 920 customers without power.
  • Transylvania County – 1,835 customers without power.

South Carolina

  • Anderson County – 1,599 customers without power.
  • Greenville County – 6,354 customers without power.
  • Greenwood County – 1,015 customers without power.
  • Laurens County – 686 customers without power.
  • Oconee County – 100 customers without power.
  • Spartanburg County – 2,981 customers without power.

Duke Energy said these ongoing weather challenges will slow progress until the storm fully exits the service area on Friday. Crews will assess the damage and restore service as quickly as possible in areas where conditions permit.
