ONE-Dyas pushes forward gas project in the North Sea

ONE-Dyas BV has received permits to develop the N05-A gas field and surrounding deposits in the German part of the North Sea.

Following approval by the State Office for Mining, Energy and Geology (LBEG) in the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economic Affairs, Transport, Construction and Digitization, ONE-Dyas now has all permits in Germany and the Netherlands for the Dutch-German energy project.

The N05-A platform is located in the Netherlands, about 1.5 kilometers from German waters. The platform is located about 20 kilometers north of the islands of Borkum, Rottumerplaat and Schiermonnikoog.

The license application was accompanied by a thorough and comprehensive environmental impact assessment, which shows that the project will not have any significant negative impact on the environment, the company said in a press release. The conclusion is consistent with that of the Dutch Environmental Impact Report, the most comprehensive study ever conducted on the environmental impact of a gas production project in the Netherlands, the press release said.

said Chris de Ruyter van Steveninck, CEO of ONE-Dyas“The permits in both the Netherlands and Germany show that we are doing the right thing and have developed the project convincingly. The transition to 100 percent renewable (energy) takes time. As long as there is local demand for natural gas, we will ensure that it is produced with the lowest possible carbon footprint. The permits we have received are (a) a mutual commitment to secure energy supplies, facilitate the energy transition and achieve the goals of the climate agreement in a safe and responsible manner.”

ONE-Dyas aims to supply the first Dutch and German households with natural gas by the end of the year. Preparations for the project are already underway. The N05-A platform was installed in the Dutch part of the North Sea on August 6, 2024. The platform will be the first Dutch offshore gas processing platform in the North Sea to be powered entirely by wind energy.

As part of the project, ONE-Dyas, together with its partners Hansa Hydrocarbons and EBN, intends to produce natural gas from the N05-A field and from surrounding fields in the German and Dutch North Sea. In 2022, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate (EZK) granted ONE-Dyas the final licenses to develop the N05-A gas field in the Dutch North Sea.

In addition, ONE-Dyas uses an existing pipeline that already runs in the North Sea, so only a short new pipeline is needed as a side arm to bring natural gas ashore, the company said. In addition, the N05-A platform has been designed to be suitable for the production of green hydrogen in the near future.

ONE-Dyas is the largest private exploration and production company in the Netherlands, according to the company’s website. The company describes itself as having extensive experience in managing a successful and balanced upstream portfolio of operated and non-operated exploration and production assets in the North Sea. It had an average production base of around 20,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2023.
