On the August 15 edition of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Oak Park was mentioned in the segment “Chicago’s Community Calendar.”
The local event mentioned was called “World Peace” and was scheduled to take place on August 18 at the Maze Branch of the Oak Park Public Library at 845 Gunderson Ave.
“Unfortunately, world peace is only scheduled to last from noon to 3 p.m.,” said actor Sean Hayes, a native of Illinois who was a guest on the evening talk show. “After that, global chaos reigns again.”
Colbert acknowledged that while the big event in Chicago is the Democratic National Convention, there are many other local events, including in Oak Park.
Hayes, who grew up in Glen Ellyn, and Colbert mentioned local events in Chicago, Lindenhurst, Yorkville, Brookfield, Mount Prospect, Grayslake and Navy Pier.
“On August 24-25, the city will host the Chicago Triathlon, which, as every Chicagoan knows, consists of running, biking and snorkeling through a deep bowl,” Colbert said.
Colbert announced that his talk show will air live in Chicago from August 19 to 22.
“As we say in Illinois, we hate to see you go, chica,” Hayes said. “But we’re happy to see you go, chica.”
