“American Beauty”

Hey Strands fans. This is a painful one for anyone outside of America – or maybe I’m just a little ignorant. Either way, I really struggled, even when I knew exactly what the puzzle was.
For the first word, I had to use a clue: ARCHES. That meant nothing to me, but it created enough space for the word “wood” to the left of it, which I expanded to REDWOOD.
At this point, I felt like I was dealing with something very America-centric. And when I saw the word “Parks” in the middle of the grid, I thought it might be NATIONALPARKS, which actually turned out to be the spangram.
I had three more to find, and that led to a lengthy process of trial and error as I tried to brute force possible words. BADLANDS? Is that a park? Yes, it is. Two more.
At the bottom right I saw GLACIER, which turned out to be the second to last number, and then all I had to do was decipher the anagram of GASUAOR. After many random connections I finally came up with SAGUARO.
Ugh. Hopefully tomorrow will be more within my area of responsibility.
