NYT Connections today (Game No. 461) – the answers
The answers to today’s Connections Game No. 461 are…
- YELLOW: WINE BOTTLE INFO GRAPE, REGION, VINTAGE, WINERY
- GREEN: CONSOLE INPUTS BUTTON, KNOB, SLIDER, SWITCH
- BLUE: PREFIXES PRO, RETRO, SUB, SUPER
- PURPLE: ___ KING BURGER, CALIFORNIA, LION, PROM
- My rating: Simply
- My result: 2 errors
Today’s Connections group is also pretty simple. First of all, it doesn’t require too much technical knowledge – KEY, BUTTON, SLIDER and SWITCH, for example, are just common words. And while the WINE BOTTLE INFO group may be easier for wine drinkers, the answers are all remotely off-the-wall.
The puzzle I didn’t technically solve was blue – which in hindsight was one of the easiest. This group was made up of PREFIXES, with the answers being PRO, SUB, RETRO and SUPER – all of which I should have thought of. But instead I focused on the (empty) king group after spotting BURGER, LION and PROM. The problem was I couldn’t find the fourth one, so I guessed SUPER and PRO (randomly) before finally settling on CALIFORNIA to complete the set. I don’t know what a CALIFORNIA KING is, but I solved it in the end, so who cares…

What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games from the New York Times. You have to find groups of four items that have something in common, and each group has a different level of difficulty: green is easy, yellow is a bit harder, blue is often quite difficult, and purple is usually very difficult.
The upside is that you don’t technically have to solve the final puzzle, as you can solve it by process of elimination. Plus, you’re allowed to make up to four mistakes, which gives you a little wiggle room.
It is a bit more complicated than Wordle, however, and has many ways to trick you. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that could obscure the answers.
It can be played for free on desktop or mobile via the NYT Games site.
