Is it just me, or has Connections gotten a lot easier recently? I don’t feel like I’m doing anything differently, but after several failures over a two- to three-week period, I’ve now managed eight in a row. And today’s might be the easiest of them.
The only one I didn’t solve was green – PALINDROMES WITH “E”. I’m surprised this was the green group because it’s harder than blue or purple, and they’re supposed to be in order of difficulty. I guess finding CAR MODELS (purple) might be difficult if you’re not a driver, but they’re all common knowledge. And as for blue…is there anyone in the world who wouldn’t recognize that BEANS, COW, GIANT and JACK belong together?
Not that I’m complaining – it’s nice to actually feel like I’m good at this game!

What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games from the New York Times. You have to find groups of four items that have something in common, and each group has a different level of difficulty: green is easy, yellow is a bit harder, blue is often quite difficult, and purple is usually very difficult.
The upside is that you don’t technically have to solve the final puzzle, as you can solve it by process of elimination. Plus, you’re allowed to make up to four mistakes, which gives you a little wiggle room.
It is a bit more complicated than Wordle, however, and has many ways to trick you. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that could obscure the answers.
It can be played for free on desktop or mobile via the NYT Games site.
