The award that football fans have been waiting for until the end of the season is finally here: the nominees for the 2024 FIFA Ballon d’Or have been announced ahead of the awards ceremony, which is scheduled to take place on October 28 at the Théâtre du Chatelet in Paris.
The award is given to the best player based on his statistics and performances for club and country over a 12-month period.
Last time, the award went to eight-time winner Lionel Messi, who led Argentina to victory at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and received the Golden Ball for it.
Players such as Vinicius Jr., Rodri and Jude Bellingham are among the main contenders for the award, having enjoyed exceptional seasons with both their clubs and countries last year.

Since neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo are among the nominees, it is the first time since 2003 that the illustrious duo is missing from the shortlist.
Both Messi and Ronaldo currently play in the MLS and Saudi Pro League respectively, which does not make them strong contenders for the award.
Although Ronaldo broke the goalscoring record for his Saudi club Al Nassr, it will not be enough for the talisman to make it into the shortlist of 30 players.
It marks the end of a legendary era that began in 2008 when Cristiano won his first Ballon d’Or and is now drawing to a close as the two legends of the game near the end of their careers.
The winner of the award will be announced on October 28 in Paris.
In addition to the men’s and women’s Ballon d’Or awards, the Kopa Trophy, Yashin Trophy, Müller Trophy, Socrates Trophy, Best Club Award and the newly introduced Best Coach Award will also be presented during the ceremony.
