NFL Power Rankings Summary: Where are the Dallas Cowboys after Week 2 of the season?

The Dallas Cowboys were one of the top-ranked teams in the national power rankings after the first week of the NFL season, but how far have they fallen after their crushing loss to the New Orleans Saints?

Most experts were upset with the Cowboys after the loss, as the team did not fall into the top ten in most lists.

Todd Archer, ESPN

(Jourdan) Lewis is a starter at nickelback, considering how much the Cowboys use their subpackages defensively. He sets the tone with his physicality, just like Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence. He’s not afraid to take the upper hand in the running game. He’s capable of playing in the slot against receivers, tight ends or running backs. He also played on the outside at the end of last week’s loss to New Orleans.

One step forward, one big step back. The end of the Cowboys’ 16-game regular season winning streak was a little disappointing to me considering what the Packers did to Dallas in the playoffs at AT&T Stadium. Still, it’s amazing that a team that has played great in its own stadium for the past two years was stalled out of the gate by the Saints.

Dallas Cowboys in 11th place

Josh Kendall, The Athletic

The rollercoaster ride of being a Cowboys fan never ends, does it? A week after signing Dak Prescott’s contract and beating Cleveland by 16 points, Dallas rushed for 68 yards and never had the lead against the Saints. If there’s a silver lining, it’s that CeeDee Lamb got going with four catches for 90 yards, including a 65-yard touchdown that briefly breathed life into Dallas.

The performance against the Saints was a terrible one for this group. They were dominated in all facets of the game and now they face a tough task against a win-hungry Ravens team.

If anyone knew what Alvin Kamara could do, it was Mike Zimmer.

Dallas Cowboys in 18th place

NFL Staff, Bleacher Report

On Sunday, the offense was quite efficient. But there was little reason for Cowboys fans to celebrate – because it was the Saints who achieved 432 yards of offense and 24 first downs in an overwhelming game.

Dallas Cowboys in 12th place

Nate Davis, USA Today

So much for comfort food. America’s Team has been beaten by a surprise 92-51 score in its last two games at AT&T Stadium… and the next visitor will be a cranky Ravens team on Sunday.

Dallas Cowboys in 18th place

Frank Schwab, Yahoo Sports

It’s hard to know what to make of the Cowboys. They were great in Week 1, pressuring Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson the entire game. They were awful in Week 2, barely containing Saints QB Derek Carr.

Dallas Cowboys in 6th place

Conor Orr, Sports Illustrated

The Dallas Cowboys continued a tradition from last year of pushing a vulnerable opponent around early in the season and then leaving themselves completely exposed to an uppercut knockout. Could the Cowboys have simply been exposed, considering Klint Kubiak knew Mike Zimmer very well and developed an offense to beat him?

Dallas Cowboys in 17th place

Vinnie Iyer, Sporting News

What was that? The Cowboys failed everywhere against the Saints: offensive line, defensive line, running game, pass rush, total defense and quarterback. The problem is that’s more in line with their current profile with Dak Prescott and DC Mike Zimmer than their playoff strength in 2023, especially after returning to home court trouble to start 2024.
