NFC South table: Saints shock Cowboys, Bucs beat Lions

The Atlanta Falcons may have started the season as favorites in the NFC South, but in the first two weeks they were at best in third place. On Sunday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New Orleans Saints pulled off a big surprise win and remain undefeated at the top of the division.

The Buccaneers held on through a wild fourth quarter to win 20-16 on the road against the favored Detroit Lions. The Saints surprised the entire league when they crushed the Cowboys 44-19 in Dallas, but that was the end of Sunday’s good story for the NFC South.

The Carolina Panthers suffered a 26-3 loss at home to Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers. Second-year quarterback Bryce Young continues to struggle and the 0-2 Panthers have shown little signs of life this season.

The Falcons play the Philadelphia Eagles in the final game of Week 2 on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. Atlanta is a six-point underdog, but the Eagles have ruled out star wide receiver AJ Brown. Check out the updated NFC South standings below:
