News on KC Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco’s ankle injury – Andy Reid gives status update

After the Kansas City Chiefs’ last-second win over the Cincinnati Bengals, head coach Andy Reid only mentioned one player in his post-game injury report and revealed what he knows so far about the health of running back Isiah Pacheco.

Pacheco, who had 19 carries for 90 yards and five catches for 21 yards on Sunday, left the field after being awkwardly tackled during the game’s final drive. As Reid began his postgame press conference, he talked about the latest developments regarding KC’s No. 1 running back.

“The only major injury is Pacheco’s ankle,” Reid said. “We’ll just have to wait and see. He’s getting checked out right now, X-rays and all that stuff. So I can’t tell you exactly what it is, but he tore his ankle.”

Reid was later asked if he could elaborate on the severity of Pacheco’s injury.

“I don’t know right now,” Reid said. “I’ll just have to wait and see – they’re doing everything right now, so I haven’t really had a chance to talk to him or anyone else about it.”

Jeff Darlington from ESPN provided a few updates on Pacheco’s status, initially posting on Twitter/X that he “interviewed Pacheco on the field after the game” and “didn’t feel he was dealing with anything serious.” Darlington later wrote that Pacheco left the stadium on crutches and in a walking boot. McKenzie Nelson posted a photo of Pacheco leaving the stadium in the boot and on crutches.

Jesse Newell from The Kansas City Star tweeted further details from the dressing room.

“Pacheco was emotional in the locker room, towel over his head and teary-eyed,” Newell wrote. “Andy Reid came over to put his arm around him before his own interview on the podium. Pacheco was still walking around the locker room, so we’ll see what the tests show this week.”
