NEW YORK – The India Parade celebrated its 42nd anniversary on Sunday and the city’s streets were filled with revelers.
The parade began at 1 p.m., an hour after the scheduled start time of 12 p.m.
Organizers hoped for 40 floats, with Indian actress Sonakshi Sinha serving as Grand Marshal, while Indian actor Pankaj Tripathi and Manoj Tiwari, an Indian politician, singer and actor, joined the party in New York, which included 30 brass bands and 50 organizations.

The parade moved down Madison Avenue from East 38th St. to East 27th St.
Independence Day is celebrated annually in India on August 15 as a public holiday and commemorates the country’s independence from the United Kingdom on this day in 1947.
