New store in this small Texas town just sold a million ticket

Dallas, Texas

Welcome to Dale, Texas … Population—

Well, there isn’t even anything about it on the town sign.

In fact, the most recent census figures put the town’s population at nearly 500. Dale is located in Caldwell County (my home county) at the intersection of two farm-to-market roads and has no major highways nearby, so it was big news when it was announced that a new grocery store was being built.

In fact, not even Google Maps has a photo of the finished store, but that’s as close as you can get.

Use your imagination and picture a finished store, a concrete parking lot, and several gas pumps. Now imagine someone walking into that imaginary store, walking up to the clerk with $50 in cash, and buying that real Texas Lottery scratch-off ticket…

…and win $1 million!

I don’t know the winner’s name (and probably never will), but it looks like someone in the Dale area became a pre-tax millionaire.

And speaking of big winners

Just a few days ago, someone walked into this supermarket in Kaufman (southeast of Dallas) and bought a winning scratch-off ticket.

The Texas Lottery Hit $500,000 game produced its second grand prize winner of the series. There are three more $500,000 winning tickets still in play.
