New seasonal pop-up ice cream shop opens on Norwalk Beach

NORWALK, CT — Fans of Lindsay Arakelian’s handmade ice cream can typically find her products in pint bottles at a few select stores in Westport, Fairfield and Easton.

Their unique ice cream flavors can also be ordered online through their website or even as dessert at Terrain Cafe in Westport.

This summer, fans can also find Lindsay’s handmade ice cream at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk.

Arakelian opened Beaches & Cream on the beach in July. The seasonal pop-up, which serves an array of unique flavors handcrafted by Arakelian, will be open until September 30.

According to Arakelian, Calf Pasture Beach was immediately the perfect location for their new pop-up for obvious reasons.

“Beach and ice cream just go together,” Arakelian told Patch. “Our beach is beautiful and full of people. I can’t think of a better place to enjoy ice cream than Calf Pasture.”

Tucked away in the beach’s garden path near the lifeguard station, customers at Beaches & Cream can enjoy a wide variety of flavors, some of which are more classic, others are completely unique creations dreamed up by Arakelian.

“We have the classics like ‘Best Vanilla Ever’ and Maple Walnut, but my passion is making ice cream that’s a little different and unique,” Arakelian said. “The most popular signature flavors are Black Cherry Oreo and Cold Brew Mud Pie. Kids love Strawberry Bubblemallow, and there are a number of specialty flavors that change often. We also have flights, root beer (floats) and cold brew floats made with coffee from Strigo Coffee Roasters in Norwalk.”

According to Arakelian, customer response to Beaches & Cream has been extremely positive so far.

“Everyone has been supportive and enthusiastic,” Arakelian said. “I already have repeat customers. I’ve also met many out-of-town visitors who have come to enjoy Calf Pasture for a day. They said they would come back just for the ice cream.”

If successful, Arakelian is even ready to make “Beachs & Cream” a new summer tradition in Norwalk.

“I would love to be here every summer,” Arakelian said.

Beaches & Cream is currently open Monday and Tuesday from 11am to 8pm, Wednesday and Friday from 11am to 9pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 9pm.

Arakelian also noted that she is usually open later when there are events like concerts or movie nights on the beach, and that she even offers fresh lemonade, drinks and snacks in addition to ice cream.

Enthusiastic customers can also stay up to date with opening hours and new flavors on Lindsay’s Handmade Ice Cream’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
