New rooftop restaurant opens in downtown Wichita Falls

A new restaurant is opening in downtown Wichita Falls this weekend.

The opening of the loft in Picker’s Universe is scheduled for Saturday at 5:00 p.m.

Wayne Moore, general manager and executive chef, said the restaurant will specialize in Southern comfort food.

“We offer steaks, as well as fried and oven-baked chicken, catfish, red snapper, meatloaf, pork chops and chicken fried steak,” Moore said.

The loft is located on the top floor and roof of the antique store Picker’s Universe at 1000 Indiana Ave.

Moore said the restaurant will be accessible through the store or an exterior door on the south side. It will have mixed hours throughout the week and will be closed on Tuesdays.

He said there is seating for 197 people inside and the rooftop can accommodate about 30 guests. The restaurant has a full bar.

The company is owned by Kirk Laney and Debra Delena Meyer.

The restaurant was originally touted as a $2.5 million project that included about $1.9 million in tax breaks for historic preservation of the historic building.

The owners applied for $385,000 from the city’s Sales Tax Corporation in 2019 and received $133,000 to fund a fire suppression system.

Over the years, the project has experienced several construction delays.

The 1929 building was originally built for the Bailey-Moline Hardware Co. by GW Filgo, whose name the building bears.
