New home care agency coming to Rochester – Post Bulletin

ROCHESTER – A new home care agency has opened its doors in Rochester.

Village Caregiving Rochester, part of a nationwide chain with locations in 20 states, has already begun offering in-home, non-medical care services in the region. At the helm is Mariah Aug, who has worked in the senior care industry in Rochester since 2016.

“We’ve been open for a little over a month,” said Aug, general manager of the Rochester location. “Currently we have about a dozen employees, but we’re constantly hiring and hope to grow that.”

Home care services offered may include light housework, personal care, meal preparation or simply keeping seniors company at home. Aug said the need for these services is growing.

“People want to grow old at home with dignity,” said Aug. “We try to help people stay in their own homes for as long as possible.”

These services can also provide relief for the adult children of seniors who become caregivers as their parents age. Aug experienced this herself with her grandmother, who died last year at age 99.

“I could see the benefit that home care had for her and my family, since my mom and aunt were my grandma’s primary caregivers,” Aug said. “I could see that they felt a little relief when they received home care.”

As Village Caregiving’s Rochester location grows, Aug said, new employees are coming in with home care experience, no experience or with nursing assistant training – all of whom go through training.

“We take in a variety of people from different backgrounds,” Aug said. “Everyone goes through extensive training. We do extensive background checks, fingerprinting and all that stuff to make sure we’re putting qualified people in the homes.”

Village Caregiving’s other locations in Minnesota are in Minneapolis and Duluth.
