FOXBORO – The New England Patriots secured an opening win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday and fans are excited and hopeful for the team this season.
I’m looking forward to the season
After an offseason full of uncertainty and with a new head coach at the helm, there were many questions about the potential success of the upcoming season and whether this would be the beginning of a new era at Gillette Stadium.
Even though the Patriots were playing on the road, fans packed the bars in Foxboro, just yards from Gillette, to watch their team beat the Bengals. It was a tough first game test that the Patriots passed. Fans were excited to see Jacoby Brissett play well, and of course, there was a Gatorade bath for new head coach Jerod Mayo at the end of the game.
Don’t worry about Drake Maye
One player Patriots Nation didn’t see on Sunday was Drake Maye. But fans who watched the game in Foxboro said they supported the decision to hold him, telling WBZ-TV the team’s future is bright.
“It’s the Jerod Mayo era, here we go, it’s time to close the chapter, here we go!” said Patriots fan Daryl Jasper. “I was most impressed with their defense and Rhamondre Stevenson. I thought Jacoby played within his framework, I thought he did exactly what we needed and that’s what we need going forward, don’t put any pressure on Drake Maye.”
The Patriots will have their first home game at Gillette Stadium next week when they host the Seattle Seahawks.
