NASCAR driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. wins at Talladega by 0.006 seconds

The 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season has been filled with close finishes all year, and Sunday’s Yellawood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway provided another classic moment.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. battled Brad Keselowski, William Byron and Kyle Larson for the lead in the final overtime lap. As the field headed into the home straight, Byron Stenhouse seemed to give Stenhouse the push he needed to move into first place.

As the riders approached the start-finish line, Byron attempted to take third place, but he was a little too late. Stenhouse crossed the finish line first, followed by Keselowski and Byron.

“This team has put in a lot of hard work. “Obviously we haven’t won since the 500 in 2023,” Stenhouse said afterwards, per NBC Sports. “It was a season with ups and downs. It was a lot of hard work just finding a bit of speed, but we knew this was a track that was in store for us. So for all of our people in southern Mississippi.” I’m glad you’re all coming.

“It means a lot to me to win here.”

According to NASCAR, Stenhouse won by 0.006 seconds. Keselowski finished second and Byron third. Kyle Larson and Erik Jones rounded out the top five.

Christopher Bell, Justin Haley, Austin Dillon, Bubba Wallace and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top 10. Chris Buescher won Stage 1 and Austin Cindric won Stage 2.

Byron and Larson helped Byron and Larson earn a better playoff berth by finishing in the top five. Byron started the race first and Larson finished third. Byron secured his place in the round of 8.

Sixth place for Bell also increased his chances of making the breakthrough before the field shrank to eight riders.

Cindric, Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano have all been involved in accidents. Daniel Suarez also had car trouble and finished 26th, while Chase Briscoe finished 30th.
