Most K-12 schools and colleges in the Upstate could resume classes by midweek

For most college students in the Upstate, classes start again on Monday. For K-12 students, schools could be back on schedule by midweek.

The University of South Carolina Upstate, Spartanburg Community College, Wofford College, Limestone University, Converse University, Anderson University, Greenville Technical College, Furman University, North Greenville University, Southern Wesleyan University, Piedmont Technical College and USC Union plan to resume classes Monday.

Presbyterian College will resume classes on Wednesday. Lander University plans to resume classes Thursday.

Clemson University resumed classes last Tuesday; Bob Jones University resumed classes last Wednesday and Newberry College resumed classes last Thursday.

Here’s what we know about other schools and colleges:

Spartanburg Methodist College is extending its campus closure

Due to ongoing power outages on campus, Spartanburg Methodist College extended the campus closure through October 6th. Classes and work will not resume Monday and students will not be able to return to campus until further notice, according to an announcement Thursday.

Winthrop University e-learning through Tuesday

Winthrop University in Rock Hill will hold virtual learning days on Monday and Tuesday, according to an announcement Saturday.

Schools in Greenville County are closed until Monday

Schools in Greenville County will be closed Monday. There is no e-learning and all activities and excursions are canceled.

According to a press release from Tim Waller, director of media relations, on Friday, 300 GCS team members drove 9,000 miles to assess the condition of routes from students’ homes to schools and found more than 1,500 problems.

“Our goal is to resume face-to-face teaching as soon as it is safe to do so. If we are able to return, it is very likely that bus routes and stops will need to be changed to areas that are not yet accessible,” Waller said in the press release.

A decision regarding Tuesday will be made on Monday afternoon.

Schools in Spartanburg County are closed Monday

Districts 1, 3, 4 and 6 have announced they will remain closed to students on Monday, with no e-learning expectations and decisions made for next Tuesday.

Spartanburg School District 2 announced plans to resume normal operations Tuesday.

Spartanburg School Districts 5 and 7 announced classes will resume Tuesday with a two-hour delay.

Districts 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7 have announced teacher workdays for Monday.

Schools in Anderson County were closed until Tuesday

According to District 3 Chief Communications Officer Dylan McCullough, all Anderson County districts are closed through Wednesday. October 7th and 8th are student holidays.

The South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind is closed until Tuesday

An announcement on Friday said: “At this time, our buses are simply not safe to operate. The SCSDB campus will be closed Monday and Tuesday. As many of our students and staff continue to be without internet, we will not be offering e-learning for days.”
