Morgan Charriere isn’t a big fan of fighting his fellow Frenchmen

Paris – UFC featherweight Morgan Charriere will face Gabriel Miranda at UFC Paris on Saturday, and that’s a good thing because the French fighter says he doesn’t want to fight his compatriots.

Charriere (19-10-1) has faced other Frenchmen before, notably William Gomis, who also fights on Saturday, and he’s not enjoying it.

“No, not really (a rematch with Gomis in the future). We had to fight together, we had to fight against the French,” Charriere told reporters on Wednesday.

“Lots of French people. No, I don’t want to face any French people anymore. The world is big. I can compete against anyone outside my country. So why fight someone who has the same dream as me? Even if they are in the same weight class as me.”

That doesn’t mean he would rule out a fight against a fellow countryman if the stakes were right.

“Whether it’s a title shot or a ranking, maybe, but you never know if it’s going to happen. I don’t intend to fight a Frenchman, a Frenchman, ever.”

So does Charriere have a name in mind after UFC Paris?

“Not really. I’m focused on Saturday night. After that, I’m focused on vacation, so it’s my manager who does it. You send me a name and I’ll fight. I just want to fight,” he said.

“Saturday night I hope to finish the fight. I have no idea what the round will look like, but I think if the fight is under control and everything goes as we planned, we should have a goal.”
