MLB Wild Card Playoffs: Tigers, Royals, Mets win Game 1; Braves-Padres live updates

The MLB postseason is underway, with the wild card round beginning with four best-of-three series.

To start, the Tigers ended the Astros’ 10-game winning streak by winning Game 1. They went to Houston and beat the Astros 3-1, putting them one win away from reaching the ALDS. The Royals later beat the Orioles 1-0, giving Kansas City its first road shutout of the postseason.

The Astros-Tigers winner will face AL Central champion Cleveland in a best-of-five division series starting Saturday, and the Orioles-Royals winner will play the AL East champion New York Yankees.

In Holland, both the Braves and Mets reached the postseason by splitting their doubleheader on Monday, leaving the Diamondbacks out of luck. The Mets won Game 1 against the Brewers 8-4.

Atlanta currently faces the Padres at the start of their wild card series in San Diego.

The Dodgers and Phillies await their opponents in the NL Divisional Series, which begins Saturday. Both games will be on FOX.
