AUBURN, Alabama (WTVM) – Smalls Sliders, a fast-growing cheeseburger slider chain, will open its first Alabama location in Auburn later this year.
A company spokesperson confirmed that the restaurant will be located at 1251 Opelika Road and will replace Bombay Indian Grill, which closed on Monday. The former restaurant will be demolished.
The first Smalls Sliders was founded in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 2019 by Brandon Landry, the creator of Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux. The chain, now headquartered in Atlanta, is known for serving small, made-to-order sliders, fries and shakes from modular shipping containers the company calls “cans.”
The Auburn site will be owned by Mark Weeks and Patrick Sullivan, who also plan to develop additional “cans” in other parts of the state.
“I was initially drawn to the simplicity of the concept,” said Patrick Sullivan. “From the modular design to the drive-thru and walk-up options, it was unlike anything I’d ever seen – but the menu was what made the difference. It’s amazing food at a great price and an easily digestible menu that doesn’t overwhelm the customer. It’s exciting to be involved in a concept that has so much growth on the horizon and I know I can speak for both Mark and myself when I say we’re excited to pull the plug on Alabama Smorange.”
The spokesperson said construction on the new Auburn location will begin in September, and the restaurant is expected to welcome its first guests in early December. The chain’s website says it has nearly 300 “cans” either open or in development.
