Mark Robinson has been rushed to hospital with burns after an incident at a campaign rally amid the “Black Nazi” scandal

North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson spent Friday evening in the hospital being treated for second-degree burns he suffered in an incident at a campaign rally.

Robinson, who is currently running for governor, was campaigning at the Mayberry Truck Show in Mount Airy, North Carolina, when he was injured, spokesman Mike Lonergan said.

It’s unclear exactly what happened, but Robinson was taken to Northern Regional Hospital for treatment of second-degree burns. It is currently unknown which part of his body Robinson suffered the burns on.

Lonergan told reporters that Robinson was “in good spirits and pleased with the many well wishes.”

The lieutenant governor will return to the campaign trail Saturday morning “as planned,” Lonergan said. Four stops are planned for Saturday.

The Independent has reached out to Robinson’s office for additional comment.

Robinson, who recently found himself at the center of a public scandal, is currently running against Democratic gubernatorial candidate Josh Stein to replace North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper. Robinson’s campaign has stalled somewhat since the scandal.

Earlier this month, a CNN investigation accused Robinson of posting racist and sexual comments on a pornography website called Nude Africa. The investigation claimed it connected Robinson through an email address and username to find the comments.

The shocking comments showed the user calling himself a “black Nazi” and claiming he would like to own slaves. Additionally, the commentator described vulgar and graphic comments about her sexual habits, according to CNN.

Robinson denied the comments and said he had hired a law firm to investigate the matter.

Still, Republicans have tried to distance themselves from Robinson following the report. Former President Donald Trump declined to mention Robinson’s campaign during his rally in North Carolina, telling reporters Thursday that he “doesn’t know the situation” when asked if he would condemn Robinson.

A dozen Robinson staffers, both on the campaign trail and in his office, have resigned.
