Marjorie Taylor Greene seems to say Democrats can “control the weather.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has sparked backlash after appearing to suggest that Democrats “can control the weather.”

“Yes, they can control the weather,” the Georgia Republican wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday evening. “It’s ridiculous for someone to lie and say it can’t be done.”

Her comments come after Hurricane Helene swept across the southeastern U.S. last week after hitting Florida, causing damage from Florida’s Gulf Coast to the Appalachian Mountains in Virginia.

“This is a map of the areas affected by the hurricane with an overlaid electoral map by political party showing how the devastation from the hurricane could impact the election,” she wrote.

Newsweek emailed Greene’s office outside of business hours for comment.

Many took to social media to criticize and mock Greene for his comments.

The congresswoman has a long history of promoting conspiracy theories. In 2021, she was stripped of her committee assignments by the Democratic majority in the House of Representatives for supporting conspiracy theories, racist statements and her past advocacy of violence against leading Democrats.

Russell Foster, a former Democratic congressional candidate in Texas, wrote: “If we control the weather, why the hell are there such droughts and wildfires around the world that are getting worse every year? You could just turn on the rain and refill the billions.” Gallons of water America needs right now and stopping the fires is stupid AF.

Harry Sisson, a Democratic content creator, told Greene, “You’re dumber than a bag of rocks.”

“We know you are the dumbest member of Congress. You don’t have to remind us of this every day,” the Republicans Against Trump account wrote in response to one of Greene’s posts.

Another Dorian to be extended in 2019.

But some thought Greene was right, as one person responded with a post about cloud seeding. Cloud seeding, a method developed in the 1940s, involves dispersing particles into clouds to aid rain production. However, experts say there will only be a small increase in rainfall and not devastating rains.

One person, Matt Culley, executive secretary of the Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association, wrote: “You take a little piece of truth (cloud seeding) and sensationalize it. They’re trying to imply that hurricanes can be man-made lol.”
