Mariah Carey wears Schiaparelli at the AMA’s 50th anniversary special

These days we tend to associate her with Christmas, but Mariah Carey’s impact on the music industry as a whole has been monumental. The solo artist with the most number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and the highest-certified female artist in sales, Carey is, quite simply, an icon. When the American Music Awards held its 50th anniversary special in Los Angeles on Sunday night, it was no wonder the singing powerhouse was asked to perform.

To celebrate the first-ever AMAs in 1974, CBS and Dick Clark Productions put on a spectacle honoring 50 years of music culture with performances from artists such as Green Day, Gladys Knight, Brad Paisley and more. For her contribution, Carey decided to perform two songs from her tenth studio album The emancipation of Mimi: “Don’t Forget About Us” and their chart-topping single “We Belong Together.”

With over three decades of experience in the industry, Carey certainly knows how to put on a play – and how to dress the part. While she performed her first children’s hits, the pop singer completely wowed in a cream-colored, strapless dress by Schiaparelli.

The singer commissioned her regular stylist Wilfredo Rosado to create the look. He has become a trusted confidant to Carey, having recently styled her costumes Celebration of Mimi Staying in Las Vegas while also helping style her dress for the 2024 Grammys.

For the event, Carey wore a neutral-toned column dress with a tight, cuffed neckline made from draped fabric. Along Carey’s waist, the fabric smoothed and hugged her figure, but there was movement again at the bottom of the skirt, where a series of folds formed flowing folds around her legs.

To match the elegant dress, the Grammy winner wore jewelry from Joseph Saidian & Sons and Le Vian, which consisted of silver cuff bracelets, drop earrings and an elaborate princess necklace. As for the beauty, she wore natural-looking makeup and sported bouncy tresses that were parted to one side.

Carey is really loving Schiaparelli lately. In February, the chart-topper was honored with the Global Impact Award at an event hosted by the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective. To accept the honor, Carey wore a camel tulle dress from the Schiaparelli Fall 2023 collection that was equally as good and equally elegant. Let’s hope this relationship doesn’t end anytime soon.
