Man wanted for armed burglary in Brookhaven shot dead by police after chase

A 19-year-old man was shot and killed by police late Thursday night following a break-in, shooting and chase from a Brookhaven home to a busy Chamblee intersection. Two other people were arrested while police search for a fourth suspect.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, officers from the Brookhaven Police Department were called to a residence on Caldwell Road around 11 p.m. Investigators say the homeowner was watching surveillance videos of her home when she spotted four armed men inside. She told police she called a friend who came by and confronted the armed men.

This friend told FOX 5 that he is the rapper Tracy T.

After a brief shootout, the suspects drove away in a Lexus that arrived at the scene.

As the suspects drove away in a Lexus, an officer observed the car leaving the neighborhood. It was the same car that neighbor Andrew Fisher had videotaped speeding past his home.

“It sounded like gunshots, so we looked outside and saw a car driving away,” Fisher told FOX 5’s Deidra Dukes.

Another neighbor, who wishes to remain anonymous, also heard the shooting between the victim’s friend and the fleeing suspects.

“I was on the phone and heard a ‘crack, crash, crash.’ I immediately thought, ‘What’s going on?'” the woman said.

Officers gave chase and tracked the vehicle to Chamblee. It eventually crashed and struck a utility pole near the intersection of Peachtree Boulevard and Broad Street. All four men jumped out of the car and ran from the scene.

Full details of the officer-involved shooting are still being investigated, but what is known is that the driver of the vehicle, 19-year-old Albert Eugene Burns of Snellville, was struck by gunfire after officers opened fire. Investigators say that despite his injuries, Burns dropped two weapons as he continued to run.

According to the GBI, officers shot Burns again as he attempted to pick up one of the weapons.

Burns was eventually arrested and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition was unclear as of Friday evening.

Davion Harper, 22, and Tyson Kamari Kirksey, 18, both of Conyers, were arrested a short time later. Both were taken to the DeKalb County Jail.
