Man Utd vs Twente player ratings: Marcus Rashford looks unbeatable while Christian Eriksen goes from hero to loser in disappointing Europa League draw

The Red Devils were coming off a home defeat to the Dutch side when their Danish midfielder scored the first goal but was denied possession of the ball to equalise.

Manchester United are considered one of the favourites to win this year’s Europa League, but had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Twente in their opening game of the league phase, and it was a mixed evening for Christian Eriksen.

Twente gave United an early scare when Sam Lammers fired a shot just wide following a mistake from Diogo Dalot, but the home side soon took control, with the in-form Marcus Rashford causing plenty of problems down the left.

The Red Devils finally took the lead ten minutes before half-time when Eriksen scored his third goal in as many games after the ball fell to his feet on the edge of the box. They looked in control until halfway through the second half.

From that point on, Twente started to cause problems. Eriksen lost the ball in his own half, allowing Lammers to run towards goal and shoot past Andre Onana. United pushed for the winner in the final 20 minutes, Joshua Zirkzee, Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho all coming close, but they were unable to find the winning goal against a team that featured Erik ten Hag as a player.
