Man faces charges after getting into woman’s car and grabbing her by the neck at Alcoa gas station

ALCOA, Tenn. (WVLT) – Alcoa Police are reminding residents to lock their car doors after a break-in and serious assault occurred at a gas station on Alcoa Highway.

According to APD, the victim walked to a gas station near the Green Acres Flea Market, parked her car and went inside. Then a man identified as 32-year-old Demarious Moore of Memphis got into the back seat of her car and laid down on the floor of the back seat, according to the victim’s testimony.

When she got back into the vehicle, Moore grabbed her by the neck, according to APD. The victim then fought back against Moore and was able to free herself from her vehicle thanks to her quick reaction and reflexes.

According to APD, the victim called 911 and gave Moore’s description, and he was later found on Alcoa Highway.

Moore was arrested and charged with burglary and aggravated assault.

After the incident, APD stressed the importance of locking car doors.

“APD warns the public to lock car doors and be aware of surroundings,” the department said. “Incidents like this happen, even in our small town. While the victim of this attack is in police custody and off the streets, APD asks citizens to remain alert and attentive, even if you think you will only be leaving your vehicle for a few minutes.”
