Maine Freeze-Dryed Place fights rumors that they denigrate the competition

Eva’s Garden in Kingfield, Maine has the most amazing mission and must now fight against rumors of competition.

Let us first talk about the mission of Eva’s Garden. It’s pretty remarkable. Mike and Kate Spardello run this operation with a licensed commercial kitchen to combat food insecurity through regular deliveries of fresh, home-cooked meals to people in Franklin County (and beyond) who have trouble getting quality food. They use the money from the sale of their freeze-dried goods to fund this amazing cause.

While Eva’s Garden recently attended the Machias Wild Blueberry Festival, they were very successful and donated $750 to the Machias Area Food Pantry.

But then the address had to be on facebook.Rumors circulated about Eva’s Garden:

We must address a false and defamatory rumor that was spread about us at this festival, that we made derogatory comments about someone or any other seller of freeze-dried products.

We don’t speak badly about anyone. Ever.

We are the target of persistent, insidious and slanderous comments that come back to us in a variety of ways. These derogatory comments come consistently from three specific small vendors who have ventured into the world of freeze-dried products.

Please do not believe these rumors. They are lies and they are intended to defame our small nonprofit whose sole purpose is to combat food insecurity throughout Maine. The only reason we can think of that would cause a vendor to say such things about us is that they want to sell more candy and make more money for themselves. While we do not begrudge anyone making money for personal use, we object to them doing so by making false accusations against us.

We only want to do good and sow kindness.

It is frustrating and demoralizing when people speak unkindly and falsely about us, our mission, or any aspect of our organization. We will continue to work tirelessly to fight food insecurity and ask those who speak falsely about us to stop. There are far more ethical and honest ways to make a living without harming us or the families and individuals we serve throughout Maine.

I have followed Eva’s Garden after learning about their amazing freeze dried foods and selfless mission. Please continue to support this Maine company that has the right heart and business model in the right place.
