Looking for a special place to celebrate National Donut Day? Yelp just released its list of the top-rated local donut shops in every state.
Of course, Dunkin’, Krispy Kreme and other big names are giving out free doughnuts on Friday. But maybe you want to support a local doughnut maker.
Yelp analyzed reviews of U.S. businesses in the doughnuts category posted through the Yelp.com website and Yelp app, and identified those in each state with many 5-star reviews from its Yelp Elite Squad of top reviewers. All businesses were marked as open and had a sufficient health score on March 28, 2024, Yelp said.

Yelp: Trends at the best local donut shops
Trends identified in the survey include:

Flavors: Island glazed in Aiea, Hawaii, has wowed critics with its tropical glazes of guava, lychee and passion fruit, according to Yelp.

Proven recipes: Olsen Bakery in Omaha, Nebraska, makes its dough according to an 80-year-old family recipe.

Supply and demand: Many donut shops close as early as 10 a.m. after their daily supply is gone, so Yelp recommends getting there early if you want “a fast-selling vegan creme brulee treat” that’s Donut Run in Washington, DC, or “a perfectly glazed doughnut” from Mark’s DO-Nut Shop in North Little Rock, Arkansas.
