The Indiana Pacers open their 2024-25 NBA preseason schedule against the Hawks tonight in Atlanta. The Pacers, of course, surprisingly reached the Eastern Conference finals last season and spent more than $350 million to rebuild the roster, including Tyrese Haliburton and Pascal Siakam, nearly intact.

Follow here to stay up to date on everything you need to know about the Pacers’ game tonight.

Problem area: How the Pacers can improve their defense and why it’s key to the season

Pacers centers Myles Turner and Isaiah Jackson will both miss Tuesday’s 7:30 p.m. preseason opener against the Hawks in Atlanta because of injuries, according to the injury report posted on the website Pacers social media accounts. Rookie winger Johnny Furphy is also out.

According to the report, Turner, who scored 13 points at Sunday’s Fan Jam, is suffering from a minor bruise to his right knee. Jackson, who did not participate, has a right hamstring strain. Furphy, who also did not compete, has a sprained left ankle.

Turner, the Pacers’ all-time leading shot blocker, has started every game he has appeared in since the 2017-18 season and is coming off a season in which he averaged 17.1 points and 6.9 rebounds scored per game. Jackson took over the backup center job from Jalen Smith in the playoffs last season and starts this season in second place. With both out, the Pacers will have to be creative with the 5th round pick. Free-agent signing James Wiseman is an option and scored eight points in eight minutes at Fan Jam on Sunday, but is dealing with groin issues. Power forward Obi Toppin got some minutes at the 5 in smaller lineups in the playoffs and will likely get minutes there on Tuesday. Starting power forward Pascal Siakam could also potentially work at center if the Pacers want a smaller starting five. The other option is rookie Enrique Freeman, who is on a two-way contract.
