Live score updates for Oklahoma State football vs. West Virginia in Week 6

STILLWATER – Coach Mike Gundy and the Oklahoma State Cowboys host the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday afternoon in Week 6 of the 2024 college football season.

The Cowboys (3-2, 0-2 Big 12) are trying to avoid a three-game losing streak after losing their first two league games – 22-19 against Utah on Sept. 21 and 42-20 against Kansas State last year Saturday .

Coach Neal Brown and the Mountaineers (2-2, 1-0) are coming off a 32-28 win at Kansas on Sept. 21 before taking last week off. This marks the start of a crucial stretch for WVU, which hosts Big 12 contenders Iowa State and Kansas State over the next two weekends in Morgantown.

After starting quarterback Garrett Greene left with an apparent arm injury, backup Nicco Marchiol capped the drive with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Traylon Ray to give West Virginia a 10-0 lead.

Greene had a long run that got the Mountaineers into the red zone, but he was tackled hard from behind and appeared to injure his right (throwing) arm. He was escorted off the field across from the West Virginia locker room, presumably to have his injured arm X-rayed in the west end zone at Boone Pickens Stadium.

OSU left tackle Dalton Cooper was cited for holding out on a second-down play that would have been a first down but instead put the Cowboys in their place.

After a run for no gain, quarterback Alan Bowman had to drop his third pass attempt before the Cowboys punted.

Before the hold call, Ollie Gordon II had rushed for 18 yards on four carries.

West Virginia leads 3-0 at 5:49 of the first quarter.

West Virginia took a 3-0 lead on its first drive, which lasted more than five minutes after halftime.

Michael Hayes II hit a 39-yard field goal to cap a 12-play, 55-yard drive to open the game.

Middle linebacker Jeff Roberson, starting in place of the injured Nick Martin, had a crucial tackle for loss after West Virginia advanced into the red zone. Roberson showed good speed in the pursuit out to the stop.

Additionally, ESPN reported on the telecast that OSU coach Mike Gundy told ESPN that Martin would be out “for a while.”

Oklahoma State will be without starting linebacker and second-leading tackler Nick Martin against West Virginia on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Boone Pickens Stadium.

OSU radio announcer Dave Hunziker announced Martin’s absence from the pregame show. Martin suffered a right knee injury in the fourth quarter at Kansas State last week.

That means the Cowboys will now be without their top two linebackers, considering outside linebacker/edge rusher Collin Oliver has been out for most of the season with a broken foot.

The Cowboys could go a few different ways in replacing Martin, including moving outside linebacker Jeff Roberson to center.

Once again, starting right tackle Jake Springfield is not expected to play due to a lower leg injury that has kept him out the past few weeks.

Additionally, backup slot receiver Gavin Freeman is not fit. There is no news of an injury to the Oklahoma City native, so OSU may stick with its original plan to redshirt the junior transfer.
