Leon County Schools expands use of artificial intelligence for weapons detection

The Tallahassee School District in Florida is strengthening its security measures through the broader implementation of ZeroEyes’ proactive AI-based technology.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Leon County School District has expanded its use of ZeroEyes’ proactive, artificial intelligence-based weapons detection and intelligent situational awareness to all middle and elementary schools following successful implementation at its five high school campuses.

“Expanding this technology to our middle and elementary schools is an essential step in our ongoing commitment to student safety,” said Jimmy Williams, director of security for Leon County Schools.

Headquartered in Tallahassee, Florida, Leon County Schools is the county’s only school district. Its mission is to “promote an engaging, safe, and respectful learning environment that embraces change and produces successful learners who value diversity and conscientiously contribute to community life.”

Why Leon County chose ZeroEyes

ZeroEyes’ AI-powered weapon detection and intelligent situational awareness software will be integrated into Leon County Schools’ existing digital security cameras. When a weapon is detected, images are immediately relayed to the ZeroEyes Operations Center (ZOC), a fully in-house operations center staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by specially trained military and police veterans.

When these experts identify a real threat, they send alerts and actionable intelligence – including an image description, weapon type and last known location – to local law enforcement and school administration within three to five seconds of detection.

“Leon County Schools is at the forefront of innovation in school safety and we are honored to support their efforts,” said Mike Lahiff, CEO and co-founder of ZeroEyes. “Their satisfaction with the performance and accuracy of our system validates the value of our technology in protecting communities. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and helping to ensure the safety of all students and staff across the district.”
