The debate between Representative Lauren Boebert and her Democratic opponent Trisha Calvarese was not a good one – and Calvarese has video to prove it.
Calvarese posted the following a statement took to X (formerly Twitter) after the debate, which took place in Littleton, Colorado, on Tuesday afternoon, accusing Boebert of “disrespecting veterans,” opposing lower prescription drug prices, and skipping key votes. She responded to the post with videos from the debate that quickly went viral, causing Boebert’s name to trend on the social media site.
During the debate mentioned her father was ill with cancer and said life-saving drugs paid for by his union allowed her to spend four extra years with him. Calvarese pointed out that Boebert voted against allowing Medicare to negotiate lower prescription drug costs, making expensive drugs unaffordable for millions.

Calvarese also attacked Boebert for his opposition to the PACT Act, which expanded benefits and health care for war veterans exposed to toxic substances, particularly Cremation pits, during their service.
“You voted against providing care for veterans who were exposed to carcinogenic poisons and burn pits during the war,” Calvarese said said“So we definitely have different priorities because I believe we should always take care of our veterans.”
Boebert tried to justify her vote by saying she could not propose changes to the bill and was not willing to “spend a billion dollars forever just because we got some language in the bill wrong.”
Calvarese countered by criticizing Boebert’s votes to cut funding for the Department of Veterans Affairs, which Boebert weakly attempted claim were due to the lack of response from the VA.

Tuesday’s debate was the only one scheduled between the two candidates. It took place at a country club, there was an admission charge and it was not televised. Calverese told reporters after the debate ended that there should be two more televised debates, to which Boebert replied that Calvarese “had her debate today.”
“I debate with the Democrats every day,” Boebert said. “That’s my job.”
Boebert’s re-election campaign did not go smoothly, as she Districts changed to make it easier to stay in office and was not initially warmly received by the new voters she wanted to represent. She had also spoken out in previous debates during the Republican primaryand had trouble defending them poor record in Congress.
