Kliff Kingsbury promises to involve Terry McLaurin more in the Commanders’ offense

After two games, Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin’s numbers are not great.

Eight catches, 39 yards, no touchdowns.

Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury emphasized on Friday the importance of getting the ball to the team’s best receiver.

“We have to find a way Involve Terry more,” Kingsbury said, via NBC 4’s JP Finlay. “That’s on me. He’s a fantastic player.”

The passing game needs to be more intense in general. In Week 1, quarterback Jayden Daniels ran for 88 yards and threw for 184. In Week 2, the yardage was cut in half and the passing efficiency increased to 226.

McLaurin had more passes (8) and catches (6) than anyone else in the win over the Giants. The problem was the total gain. Only 22 yards.

So McLaurin is involved. The problem is that the plays against McLaurin don’t gain much yardage. Last week, for example, tight end Zach Ertz had 62 receiving yards. Receiver Noah Brown had 56. And running back Austin Ekeler had 47.

The next opportunity will be in prime time, when we’ll get our first close-up look at Daniels in a standalone game (of sorts): LSU vs. LSU as quarterback.

The big question is not whether McLaurin gets the ball more often. The big question is whether he can then move the chains further.
