Kiké Hernández has a hilarious description of Shohei Ohtani after his first year at Dodge

The Los Angeles Dodgers have had a season for ages, boasting the best win-loss record in Major League Baseball (98-64) and countless milestone achievements for their team.

The most celebrated player on the team is designated hitter Shohei Ohtani, who became the first player in MLB history to join the 45-45 and 50-50 clubs. In fact, he almost joined the 55-55 club, hitting 54 home runs and stealing 59 bases.

While the media focused on these achievements, his teammates celebrated Ohtani as a person. In fact, they all had nothing but great things to say about him, according to Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times.

“He’s almost like a little kid trapped in a huge body,” said star outfielder Kiké Hernández. “He doesn’t necessarily show it all the time. But I was surprised at how much personality he has.”

“He’s great,” Hernández continued. “And he’s not that calm.”

This hilarious sentiment was shared by the majority of the clubhouse, noting his happy mood.

“(He can be) goofy and playful and seem like he’s really enjoying playing the game,” veteran Chris Taylor said. “But at the same time, be super focused and focused.”

“It’s a special talent to be able to do that. He’s super focused and focused and has the work ethic that he has.”

“He’s a pretty series,” catcher Austin Barnes said. “But he can also joke and joke around. He makes me laugh.”

“He does a great job of showing a childlike joy in the game, but also plays like a grown man,” said reserve Blake Treinen. “He always has a great attitude and a devious personality that’s kind of funny.”

“Everyone says he’s a private guy, but he was great in the clubhouse and with our guys,” pitcher Clayton Kershaw said. “You can obviously see how much he cares about winning.”

In the end, manager Dave Roberts noted that Ohtani just wants to be one of the guys.

“He’s still a very reserved guy, but I think he just wants to be seen as one of the guys,” Roberts said. “Every day, in every interaction, he is very present and engaged.”

Hernández further noted that Ohtani largely succeeded despite the gambling scandal that followed him through interpreter Ippei Mizuhara.

“I don’t know if the situation helped him. He simply had no choice but to feel like he was part of the group, or (if he was) to appreciate how much we had his back and how much we supported him during what were probably the worst times of his life, his Career,” Hernandez said. “But what I’ve seen of him since then – and maybe he still wanted to show this – but I’m just surprised by his personality and everything. He is one of us. He’s one of the boys. And I’m happy to have him in the group.”
