Key plays in Jacksonville’s loss to Buffalo on Monday Night Football 2024

1A. Turnaround time. The game was already one-sided late in the first half. Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s first turnover in three games allowed the Bills to make it even more one-sided. The Bills, who had scored touchdowns on their first three possessions, led 19-3 when a two-yard sneak on fourth-and-1 gave the Jaguars first-and-10 at their 41-yard line with 4:28 left in the half. Lawrence threw rookie wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. too far on the ensuing play, and safety Damar Hamlin intercepted the ball at the Bills’ 41-yard line. Hamlin returned the intercepted ball to the Jaguars’ 41-yard line. Bills quarterback Josh Allen’s third touchdown pass of the game – a 27-yard pass to wide receiver Khalil Shakir – gave the Bills a 27-3 lead with 2:04 left in the half. “I’m not playing as well as I could be playing – just point blank,” Lawrence said. “That was a game where the defense needed some plays from us to get going, get us in and keep the ball to score some points and give them a little breather. That really hurt us. We have to make the plays. It’s as simple as that. This game is tough, but it’s not that tough. We made it look really, really tough today. We’re much better than that.”

1B. Fourth and oh oh. The Bills took a steady and impressive lead on the first drive of the game, capitalizing on the momentum the Jaguars had been trying to build early on. The Bills ran efficiently and had open receivers in the backfield time and time again. A six-yard run by running back James Cook capped a 70-yard drive to a 6-0 lead with 9:34 left in the first quarter. Jaguars defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris blocked the extra point. The key play of the drive: A 12-yard swing pass from Allen to wide receiver Khalil Shakir on fourth-and-3 from the Jaguars’ 44-yard line. Allen also converted third and fifth from the Jaguars’ 15-yard line with a nine-yard run through a completely open middle of the line.
