Kentucky National Guard searches base after report of shooting spree

False reports of an active shooter during a training exercise at the Kentucky Air National Guard base caused a temporary delay at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF).

Natalie Ciresi Chaudoin, spokeswoman for the Louisville Regional Airport Authority, said the incident resulted in a “very brief” stop at SDF of about 10 minutes and only one flight was diverted.

The Delta flight from Detroit was scheduled to land at about 10:10 a.m. and was diverted to Lexington Blue Grass Airport. The flight recently landed in Louisville and Ciresi Chaudoin expects passengers to be delayed by about two hours.

Not far from Louisville International Airport, the Kentucky Air National Guard base was conducting a “training scenario with a simulated gunfight” when a report of an active gunfire came in, said Public Affairs Director Dale Greer.

Although officials believe this was an error that occurred during the exercise, this could not be confirmed and the incident was reported to Louisville Metro Police.

Greer said there were “no further reports of a shooter, no shots fired, no injuries and no indication that this was an actual event.”

The incident is under investigation.
