“Kaos” was canceled on Netflix after one season

“Kaos,” the Greek mythology comedy series that premiered in late August, has been canceled on Netflix. diversity has learned.

The show premiered on August 29 and starred Jeff Goldblum as the all-powerful Zeus, albeit in a more bizarre and uncertain portrayal. In a modern setting, Zeus chained Prometheus after disrupting his divine rule over humanity. Prometheus then attempts to overthrow Zeus with the help of the three people Eurydice, Ariadne and Caeneus. Charlie Covell (“The End of the F***ing World”) wrote the entire eight-part series.

The cast also included Janet McTeer as Hera, Aurora Perrineau as Eurydice, Cliff Curtis as Poseidon, David Thewlis as Hades, Rakie Ayola as Persephone, Killian Scott as Orpheus, Leila Farzad as Ariadne, Nabhaan Rizwan as Dionysus, Debi Mazar as Medusa and Stephen Dillane as Prometheus, Misia Butler as Caeneus, Mat Fraser as Daedalus, Stanley Townsend as Minos, Billie Piper as Cassandra, Suzy Eddie Izzard as Lachesis, Cathy Tyson as Alecto and more.

In their mostly negative review diversity Television critic Aramide Tinubu wrote: “Ultimately, ‘Kaos’ fails to excite because the narrative buckles under the weight of its own ambition. Several storylines stand alone before merging into one another towards the end of the season. The gods rarely used their powers in breathtaking or exciting ways. Most of all, viewers wonder why we should even care about their petty squabbles, especially when there is already so much to deal with on Earth.

The show spent four weeks in Netflix’s top 10 charts upon its release, but failed to reach a significant audience during that time. In its second week of release, it reached number three on the English-language TV charts, peaking at just 5.9 million views. Netflix defines a view as total running time divided by total hours watched.

In a now-deleted Instagram post, Perrineau originally told fans that “Kaos” was canceled. Read her post below.

Well… this hurts. I find it really difficult to explain how I feel, but I’ll try.

“When I started auditioning for this show, I knew it was special, especially because of the fact that Charlie Covell’s scripts touched me in a way that most things didn’t. I knew all of these people and I loved them all – every flaw, everything.

“For the first time in my life I was really proud. I’m obviously proud of everyone’s work and the care they put into this project because I can tell you, they left everything on the floor. But I was also proud of myself, and that’s something I’ve struggled with.

“When I was cast, I couldn’t believe anyone saw me. A girl who is not only a minority, but also a survivor of the SA – and you’re telling me that someone thinks I could be one of the leads of a show, have agency, pursue my own mission, and be desirable enough to be their lover to be not just one amazing person, but two? Was I worthy of this? Everything that happened from that point on really changed my perspective.

“As the journey continued, I began to learn more about the absolutely amazing talent that lies within – as if Charlie wasn’t enough. Then I found out about our directors Georgi (Banks-Davies) and Runyararo (Mapfumo). It continued with our incredible cast; There are far too many to list, but I must recognize the three who became lifelong friends, family, and lifelines during our month-long journey through Spain: Misia (Butler), Nabhaan (Rizwan), and Killian (Scott).

“Our wonderful HMU department, wardrobe department, Sister, Netflix, our production team and our entire crew – every single person involved was a hit. And there I sat and asked myself, how? Why me? And the answer I often got back was: Why not you?

“Everyone was brilliant and unique. Every performance surprised and thrilled me. I can’t believe I get to do this to all of you. We have created something strange, dark, funny, crazy and utterly tragic – something completely human. THIS is a feeling I want to take with me.

“Thank you for letting me be your Riddy. I had the time of my life.”
