Kamala Harris gives her first one-on-one interview as Democratic candidate to MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle

Kamala Harris’ first one-on-one interview since her nomination as the Democratic candidate will air on MSNBC on Wednesday evening, the cable news channel said.

Stephanie Ruhle will interview the Vice President in Pittsburgh in an interview that will air at 7 p.m. ET during a two-hour edition of All In with Chris HayesHarris previously appeared for a prime-time interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, but was accompanied by her vice presidential running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

She has since spoken on podcasts and local media outlets, and was interviewed by Oprah Winfrey at a live-streamed campaign rally last week. But Harris has been criticized by press groups and others for restricting media access, a strategy her campaign reportedly supports despite the disapproval of some reporters.

The harshest criticism came from Harris’ opponents Donald Trump and JD Vance, who repeatedly accused her of avoiding the press.

Vance also complained about the upcoming MSNBC interview when the news was announced on Wednesday. “This is really pathetic for someone who wants to be president,” he wrote in a post on X, claiming that Ruhle “has explicitly endorsed Harris” and therefore “will not ask difficult questions.”

His comment seemed to be an allusion to Rühle’s comments during her appearance last week on Real Time with Bill Maher. In the show she got into a heated discussion with New York Times Columnist Bret Stephens said he would like to hear more answers from Harris on policy.

“Kamala Harris is not running for perfection, she’s running against Trump,” Ruhle said. “We have two options. And so there are some things you may not know her answer to, and in 2024 – unlike 2016 for many Americans – we know exactly what Trump is going to do, who he is and what kind of threat he poses to democracy.”

Her comments apparently did not go unnoticed by Trump, as the Republican candidate accused Ruhle of being a “stupid chick” after the show aired.
