Justin Fields says the Chargers, Ravens and Raiders have spoken to the Bears about trading for him

Before the Bears traded quarterback Justin Fields to the Steelers, at least three other teams were involved in trade talks.

Fields said to his teammate Cam Heyward’s Podcast that the Chargers, Ravens and Raiders were three teams showing interest and that Fields wanted to go somewhere where he could compete for a starting spot.

“I’m not sure about all the teams, but there were a lot of teams that already had solid quarterbacks and I didn’t want to do that. Chargers were one thing, Ravens were another,” Fields said. “Raiders, they talked a bit. I don’t know too much. I don’t know who else was there, but a lot of teams had established quarterbacks who were just getting new contracts, so I didn’t want to be there.”

Ultimately, Fields was traded to Pittsburgh, where Russell Wilson beat him out in the race for the starting quarterback job, only to suffer a calf injury that resulted in Fields starting all three games that season.

Things appear to be going well in Pittsburgh for Fields, who has no objection to the Bears because they traded him and selected Caleb Williams first overall. Fields said he first met Williams at a camp when Fields was at Ohio State and Williams was in high school, and that Williams was by far the best player on the field at camp.

“He was better than anyone, day and night,” Fields said of Williams. “Him and JJ McCarthy were the best two in my opinion.”

Now Fields is playing so well that some are wondering if the Bears should have kept him instead of trading him and signing Williams.
