Jury selection began on Monday in the Boulder grocery store shooting trial. A gunman 10 people shot at the Table Mesa King Soopers store on March 22, 2021.
Those killed include Denny Stong, 20, Neven Stanisic, 23, Rikki Olds, 25, Tralona Bartkowiak, 49, Suzanne Fountain, 59, Teri Leiker, 51, Boulder police officer Eric Talley, 51, 61-year-old Kevin Mahoney, 62-year-old Lynn Murray and 65-year-old Jody Waters.
The questionnaires were sent out on Monday morning, the first step in filling the jury in the trial in which 25-year-old Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa faces multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, assault and possession of illegal ammunition magazines.
He has pleaded not guilty on the grounds of insanity. The trial lasted more than three years, with several hearings and expert opinions addressing the question of whether the The suspect is fit to stand trialThe suspect has been in the Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo since December 2021.
The judge has rejected requests to move the trial out of Boulder County.
The jury is to be appointed by September 4th.
